From No-tivation to motivation

Why do entrepreneurs enterprise?
One of the most, no, the most critical factor in entrepreneurship is motivation. How eagerly do business owner want to run their own business? Why do they want this so badly? For whom do they do all that effort and hard work without any guarantee or guaranteed income? How do customers benefit from this? Or are owners doing it mainly for their salary and pension?
Even when it takes a very long time, and many setbacks keep on coming, what makes the entrepreneur tick and motivate him to keep on going? No matter what? Here you can read how you can discuss and increase the motivation of business owners.
You must have experienced this situation too: your client is getting tired hearing all these questions from you when you try to pinpoint their motivation? As if you would not be satisfied with their answers, that your coachees probably are trying effortlessly to grasp. As if there is an ever deeper layer where the answer should be.
I agree it can appear that way especially when business owners have no clue yet to your pressing questions on their motivation. It doesn’t mean that their motivation is not there. There are a lot of people that don’t have this clearly stated for themselves. Or they find it hard to put into words. It can be difficult and takes time to formulate.
If your clients are or start running their own business, they’d better have an answer to the why. Because at the first setbacks, they experience, it will bring them back to that answer.
So, what is the very reason they are risking all of their efforts and time, if not money? How often have I asked myself: why am I actually doing this? Then it always takes a while, but I always feel this answer coming up quite strongly: to develop entrepreneurship, worldwide. That remains the reason why I do all of this.
From where does their motivation come?
If all goes well, your client feels that their motivation comes from within. Something with which they feel emotionally connected. It is also called intrinsic or internal motivation. If they don’t feel it comes from within, then it must come from outside. So, an external motivation.
For example, because a business owner wants to get rich, or because they can’t get a job or because it seemed very easy to start their own business. If they have little motivation or only an external motivation, they will stop their company much sooner. After all, when things get difficult, external motivation quickly loses strength.
If things go badly
If something goes wrong, an entrepreneur is more inclined to quit. At least you could say he tried. There is a lot to be said for that, but he never knows whether he stopped too early. If he knows why he is doing business, it is more likely that he will continue. Then he finds his motivation deep inside. He even may find his real motivation, his inner motivation, which gives him more energy than he had before.
You see this happening to more people. Because when things are going very badly, it could help them to find the real power that will allow them to continue.
Can you learn motivation? No, you cannot learn it, but you can enlarge it. Let me give an example of how a school increases motivation. EuroCollege is a private school in the Netherlands and Curaçao, which also has an accredited entrepreneurial education.
They have clear rules, norms, and values from the first moment you step in there. A deal is a deal and failure is not an option! There the motivation is forcefully taught, and I don’t mean that negatively.
They ensure that students learn to adopt an attitude of tackling and not giving up. They get inspiration from successful entrepreneurs who stand in front of the class.
Conscious and unconscious, teachers appeal to their internal motivation. Because otherwise, as a student, you can’t keep up with it. Through this approach they learn to fight for what they find essential; complete their education. Successfully; their success rate is 80%, and that is high.
Entrepreneurship means getting up more often than falling.
